Frequently Asked Spray Tan Questions From Our Clients
How Long Does A Spray Tan Last?
Skin naturally wants to shed its top layer on average every 7 days depending on the shape it’s in. The more hydrated and moisturized it is, the longer a tan will last. Typically a spray tan will last anywhere from 5-10 days. The better care you take of your skin, the better your spray tan will look, feel and last. Follow BOLD’s BEST TANNING RESULTS tips for maximum results.
What Is The Difference Between A Custom Spray Tan & Booth Spray Tan?
Booth spray tans and custom spray tans are the most popular ways to get a full body spray tan. Spray tan booths usually spray your entire body in about 3 minutes. This is a quick way to obtain a tan, but the results are usually far from flawless. Booth sprays tans distribute the same amount of solution to each area of the body so there is no customization. Typically faces end up too dark and legs are not dark enough. Tiny, freckled looking spots are usually visible after a booth spray as well. We highly recommend spending a little extra money on a custom spray tan because the results can be drastic. A BOLD Body Bronzing custom spray tan is the closest thing you can get to a flawless, natural-looking glow. Our extensively trained experts customize each spray to the client’s desire. Whether you are looking for a light, even looking, sun-kissed tone or want certain areas of your body darker than others to hide imperfections, we will customize each area of your body to your liking. We start every appointment with a full-body consultation that includes the option of muscle and shape contouring as well.
Can You Get a Suntan Through A Spray Tan?
Yes. You can tan your skin with UV rays through a spray tan. Spray tans do not act as sunscreen and offer no more protection than bare skin. Avoid indoor tanning beds and make sure you always wear sunscreen outdoors. Be sure to reapply every couple of hours as well.
Will You Still Burn In The Sun With A Spray Tan?
Yes. You can still burn in the sun even if you have a spray tan. Always wear sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours.
If You Are Tan Naturally Can You Still Get A Spray Tan?
Yes. Spray tans usually look better on skin they can blend well with. Any color of skin can get sprayed. BOLD sprays some of the fairest white skin colors to some of the deepest black colored clients. Our custom sunless tanning solution makes all skin glow and look more radiant. It can also make uneven spots and areas blend together to appear smoother.
Will I Turn Orange After A Spray Tan?
LI Spray Tan uses the highest quality of spray tan solution available. If you prep your skin correctly, follow our aftercare tips and don’t get sprayed too dark for your skin tone, you shouldn’t ever look orange. Getting sprayed with cheaper solutions with less natural-looking tones or those that contain beta-carotene, which is found in carrots, will make your skin appear orange.
What Is DHA?
DHA is the active ingredient in the most effective sunless tanning products. DHA, also known as Dihydroxyacetone, is a three-carbon sugar that is derived from sugarcane. When DHA is applied to the skin, it causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the outermost layer, (dead skin cells), to change it’s color. This is what happens when UV rays hit the skin as well. Spray tanning however does this safely at a quicker/stronger rate without the damaging affects of UVA and UVB rays let off by the sun and indoor tanning beds.
Is Spray Tanning Safe?
Yes. Spray tanning is the safe alternative to indoor tanning and according to the Mayo Clinic; sunless tanning is a practical alternative to sunbathing. Since DHA works with the top layer of the skin, it is not absorbed through the skin – into the body and has no known toxicity. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations and sunless tanning products since the 1960’s and has been listed with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) since 1973. However, DHA is restricted to external application only. DHA is not recommended for contact to areas of the body surface covered by mucous membrane such as lips, eyes and nostrils. If desired, proper eye, nose & mouth protection are available. Chap stick on the lips during your spray tan sessions is advised.
Is It Safe To Spray Tan While Pregnant?
LI Spray Tan has spray tanned numerous pregnant women at their discretion. Having tan skin makes us feel more sexy and confident, especially when expecting. We feel that as long as it’s done in moderation and the proper precautions are taken to make the process as safe as possible – there shouldn’t be any problems. Since DHA sticks to the top layer of skin and isn’t thought to be absorbed past that, some health care providers just encourage women to just make sure they wait until after their first trimester. The room should always be well ventilated and a facemask should always be worn. If the mom-to-be wants some color on her face I advise just a quick sprits and then fan her face to rid of any lingering over spray. As with anything that is done while pregnant, the expecting mother’s judgment is always the most important. There are no definite conclusions regarding whether spray tanning is or isn’t safe for pregnant women, but If you are at all skeptical about anything, we recommend speaking with your doctor. Tanning beds are not safe for pregnant women because of the intense heat. Raised body temperatures can be very dangerous to a baby as well as too much sun exposure.
What Is The Difference Between Airbrushing & HVLP?
The airbrushing process is very time consuming and is becoming a thing of the past. Airbrush machines have a compressor while HVLP machines have a small turbine engine. HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure and has more airflow and allows for more direct coverage of the body. LI Spray Tan uses only the highest of HVLP spray tan technology. An airbrush tan can take up to 30 minutes to cover a whole body while an HVLP spray tan with LI Srpay Tan’s trained and efficient experts takes 10 minutes or less.
